Welcome to the Candace de Russy website.
Dr. de Russy is a nationally recognized public
official, writer and speaker on education and cultural issues.
Throughout a career dedicated primarily to education reform, she has led
efforts to raise academic standards, strengthen core knowledge, and
bring accountability to campuses and schools.
Specifically, she has advocated:
- more responsible higher education governance
- the restoration of undergraduate general education
- intellectual diversity in colleges and universities
- an end to ideological multiculturalism and political correctness
on campuses and other American institutions
- heightened awareness of the influence of the academy on national
security in the post-September 11 era, and
- a halt to discrimination against traditional religious believers
on campuses.
Dr. de Russy has also publicly supported:
- curricular and pedagogical reform in elementary and secondary
schools
- school choice in the form of charter schools, education tax
credits, and vouchers
- improved teacher education, and
- the need to enhance accountability at all levels of education by
assessing student learning and through public reporting of the
results of assessment.
A former college professor, she was appointed to the Board of
Visitors of the U.S. Air Force Academy by President George W. Bush in
2002. A member of the Board of Trustees of the State University of New
York (SUNY) since 1995, Dr. de Russy has served on its Executive
Committee and chairs the Board’s Academic Standards Committee. She
also serves on the boards of several distinguished organizations
dedicated to higher education and other institutional reform.
